What is Yoga Nidra?
Yoga nidra or yogic sleep is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping, like the "going-to-sleep" stage. It is a state in which the body is completely relaxed, and the practitioner becomes systematically and increasingly aware of the inner world through guided meditation techniques. This is a delicious way to deepen ones sense of calm and allow for the outer world to drift away, while Colette, guides you on a soothing journey toward bliss-state-of-consciousness!
This workshop will focus on body weight exercises specific to perfecting a number of yoga asanas (poses), arm balances, and fluid transitions which require core & upper body strength, particularly in the chest, shoulders and upper back. The reason for this workshop is to help yoga students elevate their practice by incorporating strength training elements. This workshop is for ALL LEVELS of practice!

What's it all about?
This workshop is about building more strength and power. What we lack in most yoga practices are the aspects eccentric strength, (strength measured when a muscle is stretching with resistance as in lowering a weight from a contracted position), and concentric strength (muscle contracting or shortening with resistance. Example: curling part of a bicep.)
Why you should take this workshop:
Because as yogis we need more than static strength, ie holding of yoga poses for a period of time. Many of us need dynamic strength as well, which comes from lifting, pushing, & pulling heavy weight repetitiously, sequentially, thereby building bulk muscle fibers for added foundational strength & stability. We will use small hand weights, of course, our own body weight & combine the two for a solid strength & Sculpt Workout to enhance your yoga practice.
During this 2 hour workshop we will learn:
• Incorporate the use of free weights into yoga poses
• Repeat various upper body & lower body (BW- body weight) exercises.
• Tailor a yoga practice with the use of free weights or kettle bells, while also referring to repetitious BW exercises
• Build up core muscles through a series of abdominal and back strength exercises.
• Learn to execute transitions seamlessly, referring to glute, quad and hip flexor strength and stability exercises.
