Pilates Abs, Arms & A$$

This class is taught by:

Colleen Kropp

Yin Yoga Instrutor

Colleen is originally from the Greater Philly Region, but just recently moved back in 2010 after spending time in Manhattan, where she earned her BA in English Lit from NYU and later worked in the city while prepping for the grad school life that would bring her back in Philly. She is currently a doctoral student of 18th c. English Lit at Temple University. She maintains both a very active and restorative yoga practice and has been a member of the PPY family since May 2012.

Colleen is one of the Yin instructors at PPY, having received her certification in 2011 from Wake Up Yoga in South Philly. Besides reading 18th c. novels and practicing yoga, she enjoys biking and walking around the city with her Shepherd-Rottweiler, Sappho.

Marisa Illingworth

Marisa started her journey at Thrive as a work/study student, and from the first day fell in love with the warm, welcoming atmosphere of the studio. She was drawn to Pilates because of its ability to deeply and uniformly challenge the whole body at once, while prioritizing safety, stability, and the overall health of the body. She felt it perfectly complimented her dance career as a way to gain strength and heal her back after suffering from a slipped disc. Marisa is certified from Drexel Pilates under the direction of Jennifer Morley, a 450 hour program including mat, mixed equipment, and reformer. In addition to practicing and teaching Pilates, she is a freelance dancer in Philly and a graduate from The University of the Arts with a BFA in Dance. She is so excited to challenge students to be their best selves, and couldn't be more honored to join the team of incredible teachers at Thrive!

Kate Abernethy

Kate received her Pilates certification in June 2016 from Drexel Pilates- a 450 hour comprehensive training program including mat, mixed equipment, and reformer exercises under the direction of Jennifer Morley. Kate holds a BFA in dance from Mount Holyoke College, and was always intrigued by Pilates and it’s benefits throughout her college career. After breaking her foot while stepping off a curb, Kate turned to Pilates for a practice in moving mindfully and efficiently, which she now incorporates into her everyday life as well as her dancing. Kate teaches both mat classes and private sessions, encouraging her students to take up space while maintaining Pilates principles and to embrace challenging movement with humor and optimism.
Strengthen and lengthen in this open-level Pilates mat class targeting your favorite (or soon-to-be favorite) body parts. Feel strong, sexy and empowered to embrace your beautiful body!
